Alhaji Karim urges Muslims to contribute towards the Muslim Education Fund

Koforidua, Dec. 30, GNA - Alhaji Smailar Karim, Chairman of the Ghana Muslim Education Fund on Saturday, appealed to Muslims to contribute their 2,000 cedis to the fund to improve education in Muslim communities.

He said their contribution to the fund was in line with Eid-Ul-Adha which was a festival of sacrifice by Abraham and urged Muslims committed to Islam to emulate it.

Alhaji Karim made the appeal at this year's Eid-Ul-Adha prayers at Koforidua.

He explained that the fund was to improve the falling standards of education and image of Muslim communities to befit Islam through the provision of education to all Muslim youth.

Sheik Idris Apaw Wiredu, General Secretary of Society of Muslim Preachers, said the coincidence of Eid-Ul-Adha and the new year signified that Muslims and Christians had a lot in common. He called for unity and tolerance among Muslims and other religions for the socio-economic development of the society.

Nana Adjei Boateng, New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, commended Muslims for establishing the fund to educate their youth. He said Christians and Muslims had responsibility as citizens to contribute to the development of the nation therefore; the idea to educate their youth was laudable.
