The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhaji Alhassan Suhuyini, has presented some 204 bags of NPK fertilizers to farmers in the constituency to support their farming activities.

The donation of fertilizers is part of efforts by the MP to boost crop production and the growth of the agriculture industry in the Tamale North constituency.

The Tamale North MP targeted subsistence farmers, who make up the majority of the population of workers in the area.

Over the years, farmers in the constituency have had to depend on the application of fertilizers to their crops for improved yields due to the depleting quality of the soil as a result of rampant bush burning and other bad farming practices in the area.

However, since the removal of government subsidies on fertilizers in 2023 and the recent increase in their prices, it has become difficult for farmers to buy the fertilizers, compelling low-income farmers to farm with little to no fertilizer application, which led to low yields and poor harvests in 2023.

Alhaji Alhassan Suhuyini, while handing over the fertilizers to the beneficiary communities in the constituency, hoped that the fertilizers would help boost their yields this farming season.

He believes that supporting the farmers would also ensure food security in the area.

“That is why I think that we need to support many of our constituents, who are largely subsistence farmers so that they can grow to feed our community,” he said.

The MP also presented five motorcycles and four refrigerators to the Sagnarigu Municipal Health Directorate to be distributed to some health facilities in the constituency.

He also donated three (3) motorcycles to party executives for their campaign activities.
