Aliu Mahama commissions electrification project at Sang

Sang (N/R), Dec. 5, GNA - Vice President Aliu Mahama, on Sunday commissioned an electrification project for the people of Sang in the Yendi District and urged them to use the utility to improve their socio-economic life.

The people of Sang made the request for electricity, when the Vice President visited them, two years ago.

Vice President Mahama told them that the fulfilment of the promise demonstrated that, the NPP administration was sensitive to the plight of rural folks and could be trusted, because it kept its word. "Darkness is sickness, therefore, we are committed to our agenda to ensure that, power gets to every corner of the country to support cottage industries, make it possible for pupils and students to study at night and generally, to support commercial activities and night life," he said.

The NPP administration, the Vice President said, would continue to provide infrastructure, enhance social services, support the private sector and promote good governance in addition to its new agenda of strengthening manpower development to ensure that, there was prosperity across the nation.

He, however, cautioned them that, the development in their area would be limited, if they did not work in unity for lasting peace to be restored.

"Dagbon has gained notoriety as a trouble spot and this does not auger well for the image of the area," he noted. "We must endeavour to reconcile your differences immediately and not allow anybody to capitalise on the chieftaincy crisis to undermine our progress and our faith in the NPP administration, which has Dagbon at heart." Alhaji Malik Alhassan Yakubu, Member of Parliament for Yendi, who is seeking re-election, said it was worrying that; politicians who reside outside the area were inciting them to fight one another and weakening their trust in the administration.

He said it was the NPP administration that had improved the Tamale-Yendi Road to its best state ever, since independence. They should, therefore, ignore the troublemakers and lend their support to the NPP administration in its efforts to improve their standard of living.

Earlier, the Vice President addressed the people of Jimli and reiterated his message to them to embrace peace, unity and development.
