Aliu inaugurates health centre at Nakpale

Nakpale (N/R), Dec 03, GNA - Vice President Aliu Mahama on Thursday commissioned a 288 million-cedi health centre for the people of Nakpale in the Zabzugu/Tatale District.

The project was financed from the HIPC funds.

He also cut the sod for work to begin on a 250 million-cedi health centre at Kupaligu in the same district that is being financed from the District Assemblies' Common Fund.

Vice President Mahama, who had earlier addressed a rally at Nakpale, told the people that the NPP government had performed creditably with the provision of schools, roads, health facilities and potable water for the people throughout the country.

He therefore urged Ghanaians to give the NPP government their mandate at the December polls to continue with its development programme. The Vice-President said education was key to development and advised the people to send their children to school and take good care of them while in school.

The Regent of Nakpale, Ahmed Mohammed Mahama, expressed the people's gratitude to the government for providing the communities with potable water to stem the incidence of the guinea worm disease as well as roads to facilitate the movement of goods and people in the area. He appealed to the government to upgrade the health centre in Nakpale to a hospital to provide quality health care services to the people who are mostly farmers.

Vice President Mahama appealed to the Ministry of Health to post qualified health personnel to man the centre and provide a pick-up to the centre to facilitate its work.

The Vice-President also addressed a well-attended rally at Tatale and urged the people to vote massively for the NPP to bring more development to the area.

He said the government was working hard to provide television transmitters to improve the television and radio reception in the area for school children to benefit from the President's Special Initiative on Distance Learning.

Obore Gariba Yankoso ll, Paramount chief of the Bassari Traditional Area, appealed to the government to create a separate constituency for his area.

He said the Zabzugu/Tatale Constituency was very vast and remote and one Member of Parliament would not be able to administer it effectively.

Obore Yankoso also appealed to the government to absorb the Tatale E.P. Agricultural Secondary School into the public school system to give quality education to children in the area. The Vice-President addressed a similar rally at Zabzugu.
