Aliu mourns with Akomadan

Akomadan (Ash) Jan. 12, GNA - Vice President Aliu Mahama, on Monday, joined the people of Akomadan in the Offinso District of Ashanti to pay their last respects to their chief, Nana Akuamoah Boateng.

Mrs Gladys Asmah, Minister of Women and Children's Affairs, Mr Hackman Owusu Agyeman, Minister of the Interior, Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister of Communications and Technology and Majority Leader in Parliament, Mr Felix Owusu-Agyepong and some members of the Diplomatic Corps were also at the funeral.

The people of Akomadan, dressed in red and black mourning clothes, turned out in droves to bid farewell to their chief, known in private life as Mr Emmanuel K. Baah. He will be buried at midnight, following three days of traditional funeral rites.

Nana Akuamoah Boateng, whose 13 year-reign brought electrification, potable water, schools, a palace and other development projects to the town, died on October 16 2003, after a short illness. He was 67. Tributes from family members and friends described Nana Akuamoah Boateng as dynamic, intelligent, compassionate, hard working man, who had the development of his town at heart.

Two wives, 12 children and 20 grandchildren survived him. Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Minister of Regional Integration and NEPAD was his nephew.
