Kumasi, March 24, GNA - The City of Almere in the Netherlands is to provide technical assistance to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to identify new sources of local revenue and mobilise them for development. An agreement to that effect was on Friday signed by the KMA Chief Executive, Madam Patricia Appiagyei and a delegation from the city of Almere in Kumasi.
Under the agreement, the city of Almere will provide capacity building training for workers and staff of the assembly to enable them identifies new areas of revenue generation and strategies that will ensure effective and efficient mobilisation of new and old sources of revenue. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Bernard Arnold, leader of the delegation said the agreement was a confirmation of the standing relationship that had been built between the two cities over the last 10 years. He said sufficient local revenue mobilisation was the only means to undertake various development projects to improve the living conditions of the people in the metropolis.
Mr Arnold noted that, there was the need for the assembly to identify additional sources of revenue, adding that, the city of Almere would assist the KMA to collect data that would help in its revenue mobilisation efforts. Madam Appiagyei on her part thanked the members of the city of Almere for the support being given to the assembly in that direction. She called on the staff of the assembly to change their attitude and be committed to the development of Kumasi and Ghana as a whole. Mr Anthony Albert Ampong, Metro Co-ordinating Director, said Kumasi had the potential to generate the needed revenue from local sources for development. He said the new initiative would involve all categories of staff of the assembly and advised them to work hard to ensure its successful implementation.
