WA, Nov. 16, GNA - The Alumni of the University for Development Studies is advocating the establishment of a conflict prevention, management and resolution centre at the university. This, the association expressed the hope, would help in resolving the numerous conflicts that are currently raging in its catchments area and prevent those that were waiting to explode.

Mr. Felix Abagale, National President of the Alumni, said this at the inauguration of a five-member executive of the Upper West Chapter of the association in Wa, at the weekend. The Chapter has Alhassan Abdul-Lateef as President with Crispin Yango as Vice-President; the secretary is Belinda Bukari while Asigbe Gretel and Mohammed Yussif are the Treasurer and Organizing Secretary, respectively. Among several objectives, the alumni seek to promote the welfare of the University and establish a mutually beneficial relationship between them.

It would also provide opportunities for members and other persons to make financial and positive contributions towards the physical and intellectual development of the University. Mr. Abagale cited the resolution of the impasse after the closure of the Wa Campus following the stand off between the management and the students leadership between December, 2008 and January this year, as one of the achievements of the Alumni. The Alumni had been run by interim executives since it was formed in 1997 when the first batch graduated from the University and it was only in February this year that the first election took place. 16 Nov. 09
