Mampong (Ash), Feb 28, GNA - The reconstituted 13-member board of governors for the Amaniampong Secondary School at Asante-Mampong has been inaugurated to serve a three-year term of office.

The board is under the chairmanship of Mr Joseph Yaw Adjei, Principal Inspector of Taxes at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Inaugurating the board, Mr A. Kofi Britwum, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, charged the members to acquaint themselves with the objectives of the education reform programme.

In a speech read on his behalf, he asked them to operate within the approved Ministry of Education (MOE) and Ghana Education Service (GES) constitution for board of governors in order to prevent conflict of interest.

Mr Britwum charged them to ensure the comfort of the teaching staff so that other teachers would be enticed to accept to teach in the school and those already there would not have the desire to leave, noting that a stable teaching staff augurs well for academic excellence. The Regional Education director commended the old board of governors for their good work and hoped the new board will follow their example.

Welcoming the board members, Mr Isaac Kwaku Duku, the Headmaster of the school, appealed to the new board to help solve the accommodation problem for the students, which had been a source of worry to the school, especially that of the girls who outnumber the boys in the school.

He announced that the students had of late demonstrated a high sense of discipline and expressed the hope that it will be manifested in improvement in their academic performance in the years ahead. 28 FEB 04
