Amansie East district assembly honours workers and teachers

Bekwai (Ash), March 8, GNA - The Amansie East district assembly and the district education directorate on Saturday honoured workers and teachers for their meritorious work as part of the 47th independence anniversary celebration at Asante-Bekwai.

In all, items worth about 35 million cedis were given to the winners.

Mr Kofi Kyei who had worked with the assembly for 33 years, received the long service award and was given a 20-inch colour television while Mr Eric Anarfi, the deputy District Planning Officer was adjudged the second best worker and received a video deck. Miss Veronica Odum, Headmistress of the Bekwai Women's Training Institute, placed third and also had a video deck.

The best primary school teacher award for 2003 went to Miss Lucy Donkor of Akrofuom Presbyterian primary school and she received a 20-inch colour television, while Miss Margaret Fordjour of Bekwai Experimental Junior Secondary School won the JSS award and she also received a 20-inch colour television.

Mr Ayirebi Baah took the best science teacher award and also had a 20-inch colour television while Mr Stephen Kobina Manu; an accountant at the district education office won the best worker award for the non-teaching staff and also received a 20-inch colour television.

Reading the President's address, Mr Richard Aboagye, the District Chief Executive called on Ghanaians to pledge themselves anew to the motherland, never again to betray her nor the constitution.

"We have chosen the path of democracy. We shall sustain it and through it, establish accountable, responsible and efficient governance", adding that, this was the only way to restore hope to the nation and also redeem its image.
