The Chief of Asuonwunu in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Akyena Kwagyan Nuama V, has organized free health screenings for about 20,000 residents of Asuonwunu and surrounding communities.
The beneficiaries of the screening, including the elderly and youth, were screened for diabetes, hypertension, eye conditions, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and other health-related conditions.
The three-day health screening began on Monday, June 3, 2024, and ended on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Asuonwunu Health Center.
Those diagnosed with health conditions were given the necessary medical attention, while others were referred to specialists depending on their individual conditions.
The renowned chief, in an interview with OTEC News reporter Nancy Boamaa, said the health screening formed part of activities to mark the 15th anniversary of his enstoolment.
He added that the exercise also aims to complement the efforts of Ghana's health services to address the fundamental challenges regarding citizens' access to quality healthcare in Ghana.
"Bringing public health care screening to the doorsteps of citizens in selected rural areas across the country, particularly in the Asuonwunu Community and its neighboring communities in the Amansie West District, has always been my aspiration," he said.
The health screening exercise was done in collaboration with the Dada Foundation, a renowned non-profit organization, a wing of Wisconsin University, and the Ghana West African Health Medical Mission.
Nana Akyena Kwagyan Nuama V expressed his gratitude to all the partners for making the program a successful one.
For his part, the Head of the Ghana West Africa Health Medical Mission, Kyle Wadsworth, said the aim of the organization was to seek the general well-being of the vulnerable in rural areas.
He noted that the Mission seeks to provide an opportunity for people to get access not only to quality healthcare but also to clean, potable water.
