Manso-Nkwanta (Ash), May 15, GNA - The Amansie West District Health Insurance Scheme (DHIS) has registered 92,234 people out of the projected figure of 110,000.
It has also been able to collect 226.04 million cedis. The Board Manager, Mr Oscar Asare Andoh, announced this at a meeting at Manso-Nkwanta.
He said out of the 35,422 people, who are eligible to pay, 3,012 have made full payment whilst 457 have made part payment. He said photo taking of contributors in the district was almost at the completion stage and that only 10 out of 169 communities had not been covered.
Mr Andoh said the scheme has received a total of 280 million cedis support from the government, the district assembly and Amansie West Rural Bank with the government contributing the highest amount of 250 million cedis.
Mr Ben Kwakye-Adeef, the acting District Chief Executive, commended the board members for their hard work and urged them to work harder to make the dream of the NPP government become a reality. Mr Kwakye-Adeefe appealed to the people in the district who have not yet paid their premium to do so to enable them benefit from affordable health care.
Nana Opia Mensah, the board chairman who is the Wirempehene of Manso-Mim, said problems facing the scheme include unreliable means of transport, inadequate office equipment like computers and accessories and photocopier and appealed to the Ministry of Health and National Health Insurance Council to speed up the release of funds to districts to make implementation much easier and quicker.
He said the board members would work tirelessly with the assembly and the central government to ensure the full take off of the scheme by July 1.
