A youth group at Amenfi East in the Western region has asked the Ministry of Education to remove the district director of education, Kwabena Danso.
Known as Accountable Leadership and Development, the group said Mr Danso had been involved in illegal collection of monies from pupils in public schools.
Explaining matters to Accra News Thursday March 3, the group’s operations director, Frederick Kumah, said Mr Danso had instructed teachers in government-owned basic schools to bill primary school pupils GHS4 each and GHS5 per child in Junior High School as district examination fees.
But this, he insisted, was at odds with the policy of Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE), and a burden on poor parents.
He revealed that Mr Danso had described teachers in the district, who had spoken out against his directive, as unintelligent.
According to him, rather than setting up a special account to receive the monies, the district director had diverted the amount into his private bank account.
Mr Kumah promised to use legal means to get Mr Danso out of the district, saying that even if the Ministry of Education failed to heed their request, they will resort to lawful alternatives to get their wish.
