Asokore (E/R), June 16, GNA - A ceremony to present a computer and books to the Asokore Methodist Junior Secondary School near Koforidua by old pupils of the school on Wednesday took a dramatic turn when the programme had to be suspended for the organizers to respond to summons from the regent of the town.

Nana Kwadwo Ababio, the regent, did not understand why his instructions that the computer should first be presented to him during the Awukudae celebration for him to present it to the school was not heeded. He sent a linguist to summon Ms Wilhelmina Opare-Dankwah, the headmistress, to the palace to explain her "disrespectful behaviour".

The 1977 Year Group of the school that brought the items followed her to the palace. After a lengthy questioning and apology rendered by the organisers, the ceremony was allowed to continue with the Ankobeahene, Nana Yaw Darkwah, representing the regent.

Mr Owusu Afriyie, the foreign-based patron of the group who led his colleagues to make the presentation, assured the school authorities that they would later follow up their first "token" gift with more donations. He introduced a computer engineer to the school whom he had contracted to be responsible for repairing the computer at no cost to the school. Nana Yaw Darkwah advised the pupils to avoid going to funerals and wake-keepings and spend their time with their books.
