Andanis, Abudus must respect the peace roadmap
The Leadership of the Muslim Community in the Tamale Metropolis has urged the Andani and Abudu Royal Families in the Dagbon Chieftaincy conflict to show magnanimity and respect the decisions agreed on at the Committee of Eminent Chiefs.
Leaders of the Tamale Central Mosque and Ambaria Muslim Community, under the auspices of the Northern Regional Chief Imam, made the appeal at a media conference in Tamale to express their concerns, views and recommendations on protracted conflicts in the region.
Sheikh Amin Bamba, Spokesperson of the Leadership of the Muslim Community in the Tamale Metropolis, appealed to the leaders of the Andani and Abudu Royal Families to recommit themselves to the peace process to find a lasting solution to their family’s dispute.
He urged the Government to take steps to enforce or implement all the relevant decisions arrived at during the negotiations at the Committee of Eminent Chiefs, mediating the conflict, which is led by the Asantehene.
Sheikh Bamba also spoke about the chieftaincy conflicts at Bimbilla and Bunkpurugu in the Region, saying the former was beginning to widen adding, “If the necessary steps are not taken early, it will become complicated and engulf the whole of the Nanumba Traditional Area”.
He appealed to the Government to urgently set up peace committees for the Bimbilla and Bunkpurugu conflicts to support the people to achieve enduring and lasting peace.
Sheikh Bamba said, “We are, therefore, initiating consultations among Muslim leaders in the Region to strategise and support the efforts of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs in resolving the Dagbon conflict and other committees that might be set up to bring peace to Bimbilla and Bunkpurugu, and the region as a whole”.
He also appealed to the youth to concentrate their efforts on acquiring education and skills and not to waste their energy on conflicts that would only jeopardize their future.
On the 2016 General Election, he urged political parties to expand their security units to incorporate peace building and manage conflicts within and beyond the parties.
He appealed to the security agencies to demonstrate fairness and professionalism in the handling of conflicts that may arise in the run up to the elections to enable them to win the trust of all political parties to ensure peaceful elections.
