AngloGold Ashanti has spent GHS437,687.25 of its Community Trust Fund on five major projects to tackle water and sanitation problems in Obuasi.

The five projects include 20 seater water closets with ancillary facilities at Apitikookoo, Drilled and Mechanised boreholes with a concrete structure at Dadwen, Obuasi Senior High School, Anyimadukrom and Kwabrafo West.

Senior Manager for Sustainability for AngloGold Ashanti, Nana Ampofo Bekoe, said the gesture forms part of the company’s vision to develop the communities within which they operate.

“We thank the people of Obuasi for the support to the company for all these years even when the business was dormant,” he said.

He called for proper maintenance of the facilities and called for the communities’ water and Sanitation (WASAN) Committees to be properly constituted to manage them.

Mr Ampofo spoke at an event to commission the projects in the Obuasi Municipal, Obuasi East and the Adansi North Assemblies.

District Chief Executive for Obuasi, Faustina Amissah, has praised the management of the AngloGold Ashanti’s Community Trust Fund for supporting the communities within which they operate.

She admonished the beneficiary communities to observe proper maintenance culture to ensure that the facilities can serve future generations.

The Water and Sanitation (WASAN) Committee in the beneficiary communities has been charged to put the proper mechanism in place to maintain the facility.

AGA Community Trust Fund was launched in 2012 as per the stability agreement between AGA and the Government of Ghana.

The MMDCEs in the various districts of the beneficiary communities, Heads of Department and Management of AGA Community Trust Fund were all present.
