Tarkwa, (W/R), Oct. 25, GNA - The management of Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, has donated eight computers and their accessories worth twenty four million cedis (24 million cedis) to the Fiaseman Senior Secondary School (FIASEC) at a ceremony at Tarkwa.
Making the presentation, Mr Peter Sampson, Acting Managing Director of the company said the donation was in response to an appeal made by the school.
He said the company had earlier donated some computers to the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), adding that the gesture fell within the company's social responsibility. "It is only proper that the company extends a hand to complement the efforts of the school by providing the computers which will benefit both students and teaching staff".
Mr Sampson said Anglogold Ashanti was committed to the promotion of education within the community in which it operated and not only had the company built schools for some of the communities but had also assisted teachers and provided scholarships to some needy but brilliant students. He pledged that the company would continue to assist the communities in the areas.
Mr Joseph Essien, Headmaster of the school thanked the company for acceding to their request and promised that the computers would be put to good use.
He said the donation was a welcome gesture, adding that computer literacy was now a basic requirement for job placement and therefore the support from the company would go a long way to enhance the marketability of the students in the job market.
Present at the ceremony were Mr Kwamena Sakyi-Yorke, Head of Community and Public Relations and some management staff of the company.
