Residents of New Oworobong-Amartey, a community in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern region are protesting the continued detention of the assembly member for the area, Kofi Asante Nkrumah for shooting and killing some cattle belonging to Fulani herdsmen in the area last week.

The chiefs and people of the community on Sunday hit the streets demanding the immediate release of the incarcerated Assembly Member.

The Angry residents mounted roadblocks at Nketepa preventing vehicles from commuting.

Residents are accusing the Mpraeso District Police Commander Emmanuel Owiredu for refusing to grant bail to the assembly member even though the alleged offence is bailable.

Residents say several petitions to the Chief of Staff, President, National security, IGP and the Eastern regional minister with regards to atrocities, rape, defilement and even murder inflicted on the community by the Fulani herdsmen have not received positive responses.

Hence the action to shoot and kill troublesome cattle in the area.

Mr. Hor Yaw, an opinion leader told Starr News that they will continue to fight for their right and defend them in all possible means.
