Anomabu to establish scholarship fund

Anomabu Dec.7, GNA -The people of Anomabu will launch a-100 million cedi scholarship scheme to cater for the educational needs of school children in the town to raise the standard of education in the area.

This was announced by the newly installed 'mpontuhene' of the town, Nana Kweku Aggrey, at a durbar at Anomabu on saturday, following his installation and out-dooring.

Nana Aggrey, aged 53, is the Chief Executive Officer of 'Budget cash and Carry Limited, distributors of 'Blue Jeans Energy' drink.

He urged parents to send their children to school and to assist them to acquire knowledge and skills required for national development.

Nana Aggrey announced that a block of classrooms for a senior secondary school, built in memory of the renowned educationist, Dr Kwegyir Aggrey, would be inaugurated, while 50 computers would also be supplied to the youth centre at Anomabu.

He commended the Anomabu Concerned Citizens Association for its contribution towards the development of the area, and appealed to all its citizens to assist in bringing progress to the people, who according to Nana Aggrey, were now living on their past glories.

He appealed to the government to consider putting in place a Presidential Initiative for citrus in the area, since conditions for the cultivation of the fruit were favourable.

Nana Aggrey also called for the rehabilitation of a citrus factory near Anomabu, to create jobs for the youth who were migrating to the cities for non-existing jobs.

Nana Aggrey, who had the honour bestowed on him in view of his contribution to the socio-economic development of the area, in the education, tourism and sports, was unhappy that some wealthy citizens, have failed to contribute towards the area's development and "only direct that their bodies be sent home for burial when they die".

"Henceforth, we will not accept any dead body from the city for burial if such a person did not contribute towards the development and growth of the area," he warned.

Earlier, Nana Aggrey, who succeeded the first mpontuhene, Nana Kobena Kannie I, who died two years ago, had sworn the oath of allegiance to Kantamanto Amonu XI, the omanhen of the Traditional Area, after he was carried in a palanquin through the principal streets of the town amidst drumming and dancing by the various asafo companies.

Among those who witnessed the ceremony, was Madam Elizabeth Araba Hammond, the 80 year-old mother of the new Mpontuhen.
