Anyako citizens urged to support development of their community

Kumasi, Oct 10, GNA - Mr Jacob Adorkor, President of the Anyako Citizens Union, has appealed to people from the area resident outside to identify with and support the implementation of development projects back home. He said they should share in the responsibility of making the living conditions there better. Addressing a congress of Anyako citizens in Kumasi, he said education, infrastructure development and youth employment were key areas that should engage their attention. The people had met to discuss ways of promoting unity and the socio-economic progress of the area. Mr Adorkor informed them that the community had, through self-help, refurbished the Police Station in the town to help bring down crime and ensure the safety of the people. They are also renovating schools and said Ghacem had donated 200 bags of cement towards this.

He appealed to individuals, churches and corporate bodies to assist establish a scholarship scheme for brilliant but needy students. Mr Wilson Kofi Bonuedie, the Assembly Member, said lack of potable water was a major problem they faced and called on the government to help tackle it.

Madam Rejoice Djirackor, Chairperson of the Ashanti Region branch of the Union, pledged they would mobilize resources to improve conditions in the town. Togbe Mawuafeame Fugah, Head of the Ewe Community in the Ashanti Region, said it was important for people to contribute to the development of their communities.
