Apam (C/R), July 16, GNA - Miss Grace Okoe a member of the Gomoa District Assembly has expressed disappointment about the manner in which contractors working on Apam Town roads rehabilitation were executing the projects.

Miss Okoe appealed to the Central Regional Minister to terminate the contracts and rearward them to competent contractors. She made the appeal when Mr Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment addressed a cross section of the people at Apam last week as part of his familiarisation visit to the Central Region.

Miss Okoe said she had visit Cape Coast a number of times in the company of Miss Joyce Aidoo, the District Chief Executive, to complain to the contractors about the people's displeasure about how they were executing the projects but nothing had come out of it. Residents of Apam heaved a sigh of relief when the contracts were awarded about two years ago but have become disillusioned about the slow pace and poor quality of work the contractors were executing on the projects, she observed.

She said for instance the road in front of the Old District Education Office was without a drainage systems, instead embankments were constructed, which rendered the road flooded during the rainy season becoming a breading ground for mosquitoes. Miss Okoe also complained about the inability of taps in some parts of the township, especially Alata and Akobrem suburbs to flow. She said those areas were densely populated because of fishing activities.

The Assembly members said the government's effort to encourage education was being thwarted by the water problem as school children used the greater part of their time looking for water in other parts of the town thus making them always late for school.

She appealed to Ghana Water Company to find out what was wrong with the taps in those areas.
