Apam SHS 94 Year Group supports female inmates at Nsawam Prisons

The 1994 old students year group of Apam Secondary School (ASSOSA 5/94) together with parishioners from the Corpus Christi Catholic Church at Sakumono, have donated assorted items to female inmates of the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons.

The donation formed part of an outreach programme by ASSOSA 5/94, to mark their 20th year of completing school, a release copied to the GNA and signed by Mr Jerry Sam, President of ASSOSA 5/94 said in Accra.

The items included bags of rice, sugar, flour, gari, cooking oil, baking fat, antiseptics, sanitizers, toilet rolls, bars of soap and beverages, among others.

The group also shared cakes, pastries and soft drinks with an inmate who was celebrating her birthday on the day of the visit.

“We believe this is an outreach worth embarking on, as we have lightened the spirit of the prisoners, touched their lives in a positive way, so they do not feel society has rejected them.

“We believe this donation will go a long way in alleviating some of the pressures on the prison authorities, as they try their best to feed and cater for prisoners,” Ms Ama Adubea Amoah, Executive Member of ASSOSA 5/94 stated.

Madam Matilda Nyampong, officer in charge of the female section of the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons, who received the items on behalf of the Prison Authorities, commended ASSOSA 5/94 for the kind gesture.

She urged other associations and groups to come to their aid to help the prison service maintain the dignity of prisoners.

She explained that the prisons were meant to reform individuals so they returned to their communities as better persons.

On her part, Ms Patricia Twum-Antwi, Organiser of the group used the occasion to appeal to all members of ASSOSA 5/94, to rally together as the group heads to their alma mater for their home-coming, which will climax the year-long 20th Anniversary of the school.

She urged the past students to also donate to the school, various items that would make life comfortable for the current students and future ones.
