Winneba (C/R), Dec 31, GNA - Water supply to Apam and some communities in the Gomoa District, which have been disrupted leading to acute shortage, is to be restored soon, the Winneba District Manager of Ghana Water Company (GWC), Mr John Kofi Mensah, has said.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Winneba, Mr Mensah explained that water supply to the area was disrupted due to damage to pipelines as a result of work on the reconstruction of Mallam-Yamoransa highway. He said the contractor and GWC were working to lay new lines, which he hoped would be completed by the middle of January 2005.

The Gomoa District Assembly and the District branch of the Civil Servants Association of Ghana last week appealed to the GWC to provide tanker services to the affected communities, which had been without water for more than two months now.

Mr Assane Odoom, Secretary of the Association, making the appeal said for bucket of water to sell for 1,000 cedis was "too much" for workers to bear.
