Apam (C/R), Oct. 8, GNA - The Apam District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kwasi Asare Bafuor, has advised drivers to study the Road Traffic Regulations and to observe markings on the highway to avoid accidents He said overtaking at portions marked yellow without break could be fatal.

ASP Bafuor, who was addressing a meeting of the Apam branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) at Apam, took the drivers through road signs and gave the assurance that regular education on the Road Traffic Regulations would be organised for them.

He expressed concern about the haphazard manner speed ramps have been constructed on some roads and said poorly erected ones could lead to accidents, adding that, the advice of the Ghana Highway Authority should be sought before they are built.

Mr Bafuor appealed to transport owners to fix reasonable daily sales for their drivers to prevent them from over speeding, which could lead to fatal accidents.

Mr Kenneth Labu Amissah, Vice President of the Union, commended the Police Commander for the education and advised members to attend meetings regularly to learn more about driving, adding that, "a good driver is the one who goes to work and come back home safely".

Mr P. K. Amoako, Secretary, advised members of the Union to strictly adhere to the 50 kilometre-per-hour speed limit in town to avoid accidents.
