Bolgatanga, Sept. 6, GNA - A two-day appraisal workshop for 96 heads of basic schools in the Bolgatanga District has opened in Bolgatanga.
Addressing the participants, Mr. Benedict Yindol, Assistant Director, Human Resources and Management Development (HRMD) at the Bolgatanga Municipal Education Office, called on heads of basic schools to ensure the appraisal of their teachers periodically to determine the degree of progress towards the attainment of standards set between management and teachers at the school level.
Mr. Yindol said the appraisal workshop was necessary to equip the basic school heads with the fundamental tools of appraising their teachers for effective class allocation, subject handling and special interest areas of individual teachers in the schools.
He noted that poor appraisal of teachers had always placed teachers in embarrassing situations leading to poor academic performance in the schools and urged the heads to take the workshop serious to sharpen their skills.
Mr. Yindol cautioned heads to eschew over-rating their teachers as that led to unrealistic setting of targets and eventually poor performance.
He was not happy with school heads ignoring the appraisal of teachers in record keeping, admission registers, attendance registers, proper lesson notes preparation and pupils exercise setting and marking. He warned that heads found wanting in proper appraisal of teachers would be removed from their posts.
