Right Reverend Francis Amenu, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church, Ghana, on Sunday observed that the arbitrariness associated with some labour agitations these days were bad signals for the youth.
He said the fallouts of these acrimonious agitations could be the deviant youth group actions being reported across the country lately.
Rt. Rev. Amenu was delivering a sermon at a special commemorative church service by the EP Church, Ghana, Mawuli Estate Congregation in Ho, to mark the foundation laying of a cathedral named after Very Rev. Professor Noah K. Dzobo, a former Moderator of the EP Church, Ghana.
He said the accepted notion was that younger ones copied from the elderly, but remarked that the youth in Ghana today could be stranded, as the older ones seemed to be reflecting disorderliness.
Whilst categorical about good sense prevailing in the country, Rt. Rev. Amenu warned of the possible irony of dependents of the creators of the disorderliness being victims of that state.
Very Rev. Prof. Dzobo regarded as a reformist, was the ninth Moderator of the EP Church, from 1981-1992. He was born in 1926 and died in 2010.
Landmarks of his tenure contained in a biography read by Rev. Mrs E.S. Adjei, Parish Priest, include human resource development, expansion of church infrastructures and geographical spread of the church across Ghana’s borders and a review of the churches hymnbook.
Very Rev. Prof. Dzobo, a celebrated educationalist, lecturer and later Dean of the Faculty of Education of the Cape Coast University for 14 years, chaired the Educational Reform Committee in Ghana, whose report resulted in the adoption of the Junior High School concept.
He also has several literary works including African, Marriage-Right or Wrong and the Concept of Truth among the Ewes and Akans of West Africa.
Mrs Adjei said perhaps the biggest challenge that Professor Dzobo had was the schism in 1991 with one group now calling itself the Global EP Church.
The cathedral to have a conference room, lobbies and offices, is projected to cost GH?850,000.00.
Very Rev. Prof. Dzobo’s children and grandchildren donated GH?5,000 and Rev Sena Dzandu-Hedidor, EP Church London, gave GH?1,000 towards the project.
A foundation was also established to be operated to support well meaning social pursuits in remembrance of Very Rev Prof Dzobo.
