Kumasi, Jan 8, GNA - The Most Reverend Peter Akwasi Sarpong, Catholic Archbishop of Kumasi, has called on Christians to eschew falsehood in all forms and ensure that truth and justice prevail in all facets of the society.
He said this was the only way they can help portray themselves as sons and daughters of God who have been prepared to bring peace and development to mankind.
Archbishop Sarpong was performing a thanksgiving service in honour of Major-General Fred Kwabena Akwaboah for his election as the Supreme Subordinate President of the Knights of Saint John International of Ghana and Sierra Leone at the Saint Peter's Minor Basilica in Kumasi on Sunday.
He advised the members to discharge their duties as expected of them as worthy ambassadors of the church and support the President to promote the organization in all aspects of the church. A citation read by Brigadier-General Dennis Adjei, Grand President of Cape Coast Commandery in honour of Maj-Gen Akwaboah said it was in 2005 that he ascended the high office of the Supreme Subordinate President after 31 years of committed, dedicated and loyal service in the ancient and Noble Order of the Knights of Saint John International, which serves as a military wing of the Catholic Church. "Having served the Saint Peter's Commandery as first Vice-President and President respectively for four years, you came back after six years to serve another two-year term to salvage the commandery from doldrums", the citation said.
It said, "From the local presidency, you took the bull by the horn to prepare the way for the proposed Cape Coast Grand Commandery to come into being and did in fact take up the presidency for two-year term of office being the first grand president of the commandery". The citation indicated that Maj-Gen Akwaboah served the Order and the mother church in many responsible ways and roles and demonstrated wisdom and flair in negotiation and in the art of conflict resolutions and helped to resolve the impasse that was affecting the hierarchy of the Ladies Auxiliary at the supreme level. It prayed that the spirit of Saint John the Baptist, the patron saint, burn within him till he meets the Good Lord and all the souls that go marching on.
Maj-Gen Akwaboah thanked the Order for the honour done him and promised to work hard to propagate the organization and the mother church to the glory of God.
Archbishop Sarpong later blessed Maj-Gen Akwaboah and his family as well as the Saint John's Band which has been named after him. Jan. 08 05
