Archbishop Sarpong donates to prisons

Kumasi, Jan 5, GNA - The Most Reverend Peter Kwasi Sarpong, Archbishop of Kumasi, at the weekend donated a variety of items worth several millions of cedis to three prisons in the Kumasi metropolis. The prisons are the Kumasi Central Prisons, the Amanfrom and Ahinsan Prison Camps.

The items were a television set for the inmates of the Kumasi Central Prison, a television and a video deck each for the Amanfrom and Ahinsan Camps, five bales of secondhand clothes, assorted soap, biscuits, different types of cooked food and footwear. Presenting the items on behalf of Archbishop Sarpong, Mr Martin Nyame, Catechist of the Prisons Ministry of the Catholic Church, said the donation was part of the Archbishop's yearly presentation of gifts to the prisons.

The Sacred Heart Group of the Saint Paul's Catholic Church at Amakom used the occasion to donate a 450-gallon capacity polytank costing about 1.8 million cedis to the female inmates of the Central Prison.

Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) Reverend Father Martin Paddy, chaplain of the Prisons who received the donation, thanked the church for the items and appealed to the church to erect a wooden shed in the yard to help the inmates to have a place of relaxation where they could play indoor games.
