Archbishop of Tamale donates to Nyohini children’s home

The Most Reverend Philip Naameh, Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale Archdiocese, on Tuesday donated various items to the Nyohini Children’s Home in Tamale.

The items include bags of rice and maize, two cartons of frozen fish, tubers of yams, three gallons of cooking oil, fruits and vegetables, soaps and detergents, mats, baby clothes and diapers.

The donation was in response to an earlier visit to the Home by the Archbishop, where he pledged to support the Home and its managers to continue in their up-keep of the children.

Most Reverend Naameh said “we will later try to provide some materials to support the children in some basic skills training and we shall occasionally visit these children to give them moral talks or bring them to interact with our Sunday school children”.

He said remaining insensitive to the plight of the less-privileged in society meant remaining ungrateful to God, and called on all to go to the aid of the less-privileged.

He asked society not to look down upon orphans or consider them as bad omen, adding they were of the image of God and all must be done to keep their dignity.

He called on all stakeholders, NGO’s and individuals to respond swiftly and in a continuous manner to the needs of the less-privileged children in society.

Madam Augustine Quainoo, Head of Nyohini Children’s Home, expressed appreciation to the Archbishop for the donation and pledged to put them to a judicious use.

Madam Quainoo said, the Home currently had a population of 28 orphans who were between the ages of three months to 18 years.

She said, the Home faced challenges of encroachment and defecation on its land and called for fencing of the premises to prevent such acts.**
