Alhaji Collins Dauda, the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, said the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL) had played a significant role in the development of Ghana, especially, in the area of infrastructure.

He said every sector in the country had benefited from the expertise and resourcefulness of AESL, especially in the health, education, sports and agriculture through the provision of services in the built environment.

Alhaji Dauda was speaking at the inauguration of a seven- member Board of Directors for the AESL in Accra.

The Board is chaired by Mr. Joseph Henry Owusu-Acheampong. The members are Mr. Mujeeb Rahman Ahmed, Mr. Osman H. Thompson, Mr. Paul Boafo, Nana Kojo Torku and Cecilia Nana A.G. Kesse as members.

He said landmark projects the Company had helped to design and supervise include the Flagstaff House, the 5000 Affordable Housing Scheme and the Government Schools under Trees Project.

The Minister said involvement of the private sector in the provision of consultancy services for government projects was exclusive preserve for the AESL which had produced some healthy competition into the consultancy industry.

He said to survive in such an environment, there was a need to be always innovative and in solving modern architectural problems.

Alhaji Dauda, therefore, urged the Board to allow the management of AESL work freely with regard to the daily activities of the company to concentrate on matters relating to the broader strategic objectives.

He commended the previous board for building a strong foundation and also tasked the new Board to work diligently as a unit to ensure that AESL continues to provide quality services to the nation.

Mr Owusu-Acheampong on behalf of the Board expressed gratitude to the minister and assured him of bringing their expertise on board to serve the nation.
