Bole (N/R), June 14, GNA- Five Area Councils and a Town Council in the Bole District of the Northern Region, were inaugurated to help make government's decentralization programme more meaningful to the people. They are the Bole Town Council, and the Mankumah, Mandari, Maluwe, Tinga and Bamboi Area Councils.

Inaugurating the councils on Wednesday at Bole, Abdul Karimu, the District Coordinating Director, explained that the institutions were mainly created to assist in mobilizing revenue for the various district assemblies in the country.

He said the councils were also to serve as mini parliament where the people through their assembly members could take impotent decisions to improve their standards of living. Mr. Karimu said the members of the councils would be educate on the operations of the institutions to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

He appealed to the people to provide vital information to the police to enable them to combat crimes in the area, especially the rampant armed robbery cases along the Bole-Bamboi road. Mr. John Ayivor, the District Magistrate, who swore the members into office charged them to work assiduously towards the development of the people.

He reminded them that they could be charged for perjury if they fail to discharge their duties honestly and truthfully. Mr. Ayivor urged the members to involve traditional authorities in the decision-making process, and in planning development projects. He advised them to explore other sources of revenue to enable them to generate more funds for the development of their areas. Mr. James Jaagar, the Presiding Member for the District Assembly, appealed to the people to ensure peace towards the rapid development of the area.
