Boamang (Ash), July 15, GNA - The chiefs and people of Boamang and surrounding communities in Ashanti Region on Wednesday appealed to the Inspector General of Police to deploy police patrol team to the area to curb crime.
Nana Antwiwaa Boasiako, Ekuonahemaa of Boamang, made the appeal when Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku, Afigya-Kwabre District Chief Executive (DCE) paid a familiarization visit to the area. She said members of the community had for some time now been living in fear as a result of incessant raids by armed robbers. The robbers, with impunity, mounted road blocks on the Boamang-Ahenkro road, snatching cars and robbing travellers of their money, mobile phones and other valuables.
The Queenmother described the security situation as "very alarming," saying the robbers at certain times operated from midnight to dawn and subjected passengers, who did not carry money or mobile phones on them, to severe beatings.
Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku encouraged the people to report criminals in their midst to the police.
He gave the assurance that the District Security Committee (DISEC) would do everything possible to flush out the robbers and urged the communities and the security agencies to collaborate. Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku said the people needed peace and development and advised those involved in the criminal activities to put an end to it because they would not be spared when caught. Nsuontem and Kyerekrom were the other communities the DCE visited. 15 July 09
