Asamankese mechanics are to be re-located

Asamankese, Aug 18, GNA - The West Akyem Municipal Assembly is to re-locate all mechanics as part of moves to improve sanitation and orderly development at the municipal capital, Asamankese.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Seth Otchere, has however informed a meeting of the assembly that it had become difficult to raise sufficient money from garages for the re-location to the zone around Bunso Junction.

He said the assembly had earmarked GHC 15,000 from the District Development Facility to enable it to pay compensation and also clear the land for the start of the exercise.

On the demand by the assembly to the former MCE, Mr Sintim Aboagye, to refund GHC 2,836, Mr Otchere said the former MCE in a reply to a letter to management indicated that he had approval to travel to Sweden and could therefore not refund the money.

In a discussion that ensued at the meeting, it came to light that approval was given by the assembly and for that matter it was proposed that the issue be dropped.

On an amount of GHC 12,000 withdrawn from the National Investment Bank (NIB), Accra branch, the MCE said the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and the Asamankese police were requested to investigate the case of withdrawal without authorization from the assembly.
