Asanko Gold Ghana Limited has provided details regarding the incident at its mining concession near Mpatoam in the Amansie South District, which led to a confrontation between military personnel deployed as part of a state-mandated security operation and local community members.
According to the company, the presence of the military was part of a state-directed security initiative coordinated by the Ghana Chamber of Mines.
However, the situation escalated, resulting in attacks on military camps in the area, with one fatality and several properties damaged or destroyed.
In a statement released by Asanko on September 9, 2025, the company said it is working closely with both the government and local authorities to swiftly address the situation and commiserate with affected families.
“The Company shares in the community’s grief over the tragic loss of life and extends its heartfelt condolences to the affected families during this difficult time. Asanko is working closely with local authorities, government officials, and community leaders to address the situation,” it stated.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, Tweneboa Kododua Fokuo, in a press statement issued on September 9, 2025, expressed deep grief, describing the incident as a “heinous act of violence” allegedly carried out by military officers deployed to the mining company.
