Asante-Akim South assembly assists 51 students

Asankare(Ash), Jan. 3, GNA - The Asante-Akim South District Assembly has provided assistance to 51 students in second cycle and other institutions within the district as part of its educational programme.

Dr Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng, District Chief Executive, who announced this said 30 students, 10 each from the three senior secondary schools within the district would benefit from the scholarship scheme. The schools are Juaso Secondary/Technical, Ofoase Secondary/Technical and Bompata Presbyterian Secondary.

Dr Gyamfi-Fenteng was speaking at the first anniversary of Asankare Students Union (ASSU) at Asankare.

He said 21 students from the district pursuing training at the Asankare Leadership Training Institute had also been granted scholarships.

The DCE said the scholarships were instituted to improve on the standard of education within the district.

Dr Gyamfi-Fenteng said the physically challenged were included and advised parents of physically challenged children who were brilliant to take advantage of the scheme to provide better education for them. He commended the students for their initiative to form the association and urged them to sustain the enthusiasm.

Mr Fabian Belieb, District Director of Education, asked the students to eschew negative tendencies that would affect their academic work but fashion out educative programmes that would benefit the members in line with the union's objectives.

He asked parents to take advantage of the Capitation grant and enrol their children in school to reduce the high illiteracy rate in the district.
