Juaso (Ash), April 26, GNA- Mr Boakye Yiadom Abdul Karim, a Nurse Anaesthetist, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, was on Friday confirmed as the new District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asante Akim South.

The approval of the President's nominee came out as a result of an election conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) at Juaso, of which 39 of the assembly members present voted for him with 19 against his nomination.

The new DCE, therefore, takes over from Dr. Lord Justice Gyamfi Fenteng, who was relieved of the post by the President John Agyekum Kufuor about five months ago.

Mr Benjamin Asonaba-Dapaah, a member of the Council of State addressing them after the election, commended the Assembly members of approving the nomination of Mr Boakye Yiadom in a smooth and impressive election.

He assured the new DCE and the assembly members of his total support in their activities and called for respect, devotion to duty and total collaboration to enhance the development of the district. Mr Asonaba-Dapaah stressed the need for the members of the Assembly to do all that they could to support the mobilization of the internally generated fund of the assembly in support of the District Assemblies Common Fund.

Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister said the President was committed to the decentralization process and rural development.

He said it was against this backdrop that many of the DCE's currently nominated were from the district assemblies. He also congratulated the assembly members for endorsing Mr Boakye Yiadom, who has served the assembly on three consecutive terms as an assembly member.

Mr Osei Assibey urged the DCE to be committed to the development of the district and refrain from negative tendencies, which could hamper the progress of the area.

Mr. Eric Aboagye, the Presiding Member called on the DCE to be transparent and fair.
