Nsawam (E/R), Sept. 13, GNA - The people of Asante Akura in the Kudwo-PWD Quarters Electoral Area of Nsawam in the Eastern Region, at the weekend organised a clean-up exercise.
They weeded and swept the surroundings and de-silted choked gutters in the community.
Addressing the people, Mr. Joseph Kingsley Yeboah, Assembly Member, said the exercise would be organised periodically to eliminate the breeding sites of mosquitoes in the area to reduce the incidence of malaria fever.
He said since "cleanliness is next to Godliness," there was the need for them to keep the environment clean. The Assembly Member called on the people to unite to provide social amenities since the government alone could not ensure the development of the area.
He advised them to bury their political differences and to unite to improve their living conditions.
Speaking to the GNA after the exercise, Mr. Lord de-Graft Aikins, an opinion leader in the area, congratulated Mr. Yeboah for organising the programme at the right time.
The opinion leader, who lost in the District Assembly election to Mr. Yeboah, commended the Assembly Member as a man with a sense of direction and called on the people to participate in communal labour regularly. He appealed to the people to support the efforts of the Assembly Member to improve sanitation in the community.
