Asante-Mampong assembly receives DACF of GH¢39,000.00

Mampong (Ash), Oct. 27, GNA - The Asante-Mampong Municipal Assembly has received GH¢335,000.00 as its share of the District Development Fund (DDF).

Mr Daniel Appau Ohyeamang, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the money would be used for the construction of education infrastructure, sanitation facilities and re-shaping of the Penteng-Benim feeder road.

Additionally, it would fund capacity building training for assembly and unit committee members, revenue collectors and to equip the Municipal Administration with laptop computers.

The MCE was addressing the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly at Asante-Mampong.

Mr Ohyeamang said the assembly had also been paid its second quarter allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), for the year, and this amounted to GH¢39,000.00.

On their revenue collection performance, he told the meeting that they had mobilized GH¢236,244.90 from the traditional sources, as at the close of September.

The figure represented 72.48 per cent of the projected revenue target of GH¢325,910.00 for 2011.

He said they needed to do more to exceed target.

The MCE noted the extensive damage caused to some roads in the area, including the scarp stretch on the Kumasi-Mampong highway, Penteng-Kofiase and Kofiase-Wiamoase, following recent heavy rains and said everything would be done to put them back into good shape.

He said the soil that had blocked parts of the road running through the scarp had now been removed by the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA).

Mr Ohyeamang, however, appealed to the Ashanti Regional Director of the GHA, to carry out safety checks on the road to ensure that dangerous sections were tackled.

The contractors working on the Penteng-Kofiase road, he said, had been asked to speed up the job to allow for free movement of people and goods.

Meanwhile, drivers have been warned not to use the Wiamoase-Kofiase Road because of a weak bridge on it that could collapse anytime.
