Asante-Mampong to receive GH¢1.6m from Common Fund

Mampong (Ash), Aug 5, GNA - The Asante-Mampong Municipal Assembly is to receive a total of GH¢1,670,341.48 as its share of the District Assemblie= s Common Fund (DACF) for the year.

Mr Daniel Apau Ohyeamang, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said thi= s would go into the construction of schools infrastructure, rehabilitation of some feeder roads, electrification of some communities and the provision of sanitation facilities. He was addressing the first ordinary meeting of the assembly at Asante-Mampong.

The MCE said as of the end of the first half of the year they had collected an amount of GH¢193,437.23 from traditional sources. The figure represented 59.35 per cent of the revenue target of GH¢325,910.00, the assembly had set for the year. He described the performance as not encouraging compared with last year's first half figure of GH¢325,343.14.

Mr Ohyeamang spoke of plans for aggressive sports promotion among the youth in the area and said the assembly had already procured 40 sets of football jersey and 40 footballs towards that.

He said to help ensure prompt response to fire emergencies; the Municipal Fire Station had taken delivery of a brand new fire tender. Mr Ohyeamang commended the Member of Parliament, Mr Francis Addai Nimoh and the security agencies for the good job they were doing and invite= d all to give the assembly the needed support to bring development to the municipality.

He used the occasion to appeal to supporters of the various political parties to engage in clean and decent campaign ahead of the 2012 elections to help safeguard the peace. Mr Addai Nimoh encouraged the people to work with unity of purpose to speed up the area's socio-economic progress.
