Kumasi, April 27, GNA- Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, on Tuesday advised bakers to call off their planned strike action to force down the price of flour.

He said they should rather dialogue with both government and the milling companies to resolve the rumpus created by the recent flour price hike.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu gave the advice when bakers in Kumasi led by their President, Mrs Comfort Akotuah presented to him nine boxes of bread and cake worth about 10 million cedis in support of the 'Adae Kese' festival and the fifth anniversary celebration of his coronation at the Manhyia palace.

The Asantehene noted that if they should carry out their threat to completely stifle the market of bread and other flour products, the effect could be more devastating to the country.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu said he appreciated the donation by the bakers especially when they were going through difficult times.

The bakers have threatened to embark on a strike action if by the end of April the milling companies refused to review downwards, recent increase in the price of flour.

They said they found it totally unacceptable and unjustified that the price of flour should go up three times within a period of less than four months. 27 April 04
