The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has outlined crucial factors that disqualify an individual from ascending to a chiefly stool in Asanteman.

According to the renowned monarch, these factors are essential for maintaining the dignity and integrity of the traditional institution.

During the Asanteman Council meeting on Thursday, October 16, 2025, His Majesty highlighted six key disqualifications for aspiring chiefs. These include being a rapist, a prisoner or ex-convict, a thief, physically challenged, a drunkard, or not being of royal lineage.

The monarch emphasised that these factors are critical to ensuring that only individuals with impeccable character and lineage are considered for chiefly positions.

“The Asanteman Council’s stance on these disqualifying factors underscores the importance of integrity, morality, and physical ability in traditional leadership,” he said.

“By setting these standards, we aim to uphold the values and traditions of Asanteman and ensure that chiefs are role models for their communities.”

The meeting, held at the Manhyia Palace, was a significant gathering that highlighted the council’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the traditional institution.

His Majesty’s words serve as a reminder to the Asanteman community of the importance of adhering to traditional values and principles.

The council’s decision is expected to have a significant impact on the selection of chiefs in the kingdom, concluding with a renewed commitment to upholding the traditions and values of Asanteman.
