Dr John Kpikpi, 2024 Presidential Candidate of the Progressive Alliance of Ghana
The Progressive Alliance of Ghana (PAG) has commended the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and his mediation committee for their sustained efforts to resolve the long-standing Bawku conflict.
The commendation follows the presentation of the Bawku Mediation Report to President John Dramani Mahama, a report the government has since endorsed.
PAG has welcomed the government’s commitment to implementing the report’s recommendations, describing the move as a significant and necessary step toward restoring peace and stability in the Bawku area.
“The mediation process has provided a lawful, credible, and inclusive pathway to ending years of violence, mistrust, and uncertainty,” said Dr John Kpikpi, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the Progressive Alliance of Ghana in a statement on December 18,2025.
The alliance has urged all stakeholders to respect the outcomes of the mediation process and to fully cooperate with its implementation.
It emphasised that sustainable peace in Bawku can only be achieved through justice, reconciliation and strict adherence to the rule of law.
PAG further called on the government to implement the recommendations with urgency, transparency and sensitivity to the needs of affected communities.
The Bawku conflict has endured for years, resulting in recurrent violence and instability. PAG expressed confidence that the Asantehene’s mediation initiative, if faithfully implemented, will pave the way for lasting peace, social cohesion and development in the region.
