We Never Gave Rawlings Any Warning
Mr. Collins Edusei, Senior Secretary of the Asanteman Council has denied the Kumasi Mail report that the Council had specifically warned president Rawlings to leave his "boom" speeches behind when he sets foot in the Ashanti region as part of his campaign for the NDC.
Speaking in an interview with the Lens on Monday soon after the publication by the Kumasi Mail, Mr Edusei categorically denounced the publication and said that large parts of it are simply pure fabrications by the reporter of the Kumasi Mail, Morgan Owusu.
Among other things, Mr Edusei was reported to have said that "the people of Asanteman are mature, sensible, and of high personality profiles who deserve only refined speeches." He was also reported to have urged President to behave responsibly.
Mr. Edusei told the Lens that he never at anytime said any of the above words attributed to him by the Kumasi Mail. He was at a loss as to why the paper would want to use the Asanteman Council to pursue whatever agenda they may have against the former President.
All I said was that our politicians should put a priority on issues that are pertinent to the ordinary man on the street and discuss and put out alternate policies that have the potential of benefiting the people of Ghana.
Mr. Edusei used the opportunity to make a fervent appeal to media practitioners all over the country to endeavor to play their role to safeguard the peace of the country and consolidate our democratic gains by being factual in their reportage and avoid the temptation of adding their own editorial opinions to their reportage of issues.
