Kumasi, March 26, GNA - A total of 546 million cedis was last year injected by Alhaji M.M. Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase constituency into the provision of facilities and development projects in the area. Two hundred and five million cedis of the amount came from the MP's common Fund, 100 million cedis from the GETFUND, while 200 million cedis of the amount was derived from the HIPC utilisation fund. The remaining 41 million cedis emanated from individual contributions.

Alhaji Mubarak announced this when he addressed a grand durbar of the Asawase constituency monthly durbar in Kumasi on Saturday. The MP said the resources expended covered renovation of educational infrastructure, provision of bags of cement, dual and mono desks as well as television sets to schools and the local communities. Alhaji Mubarak said in view of the importance he attached to education he ensured that 38 students from the second cycle institutions secured scholarships from the resources. This notwithstanding, part of the funds was ploughed into the reconditioning of the police van belonging to the Asawase police station. The MP said, in view of the youth intolerance and lawlessness, he would continue to assist the police from his resources to guarantee law and order in the constituency.

Alhaji Mubarak said he was of the conviction that it is only when there is peace and security guaranteed, that job opportunities could be opened to the idling youth, hence a need to assist the police maintain such peace in the constituency. The MP said as a means of fostering unity amongst the numerous ethnic groupings in the constituency, he organised a series of programmes, including inter schools quiz, inter electoral area football gala, free medical care, blood donation and eye clinics. Alhaji Mubarak said over 3,000 people were screened for either eye or physical health.
