Asebu-Ekroful (C/R), Dec 27, GNA- Mr Birimpong Yeboah, Central Regional Engineer of the Electricity Company Of Ghana (ECG) on Friday inaugurated a 48.7 million cedis electricity project for the people of Asebu-Ekroful in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District in the Central Region.

The project, which started in 1994, was funded through levies of 8,000 cedis per male and 6,000 cedis a female, while non-resident citizens paid 12,000 cedis for men and 10,000 cedis for women. The inauguration of the project also coincided with the sod cutting of a 144 million-cedis pipe-borne-water project in the area.

Mr Yeboah told the people to use the project to create more jobs for the unemployed in the area, adding that electricity is a very useful tool but if not properly used it could cause havoc.

He advised them not to misuse the facility and pay their bills promptly.

Nana Andzie Bofo IX, chief of the area commended the people for their self-help spirit, which enabled them to finance the project, and urged them to use the same spirit to help complete other projects including the provision of good drinking water in the area.

He expressed concern about the deplorable nature of facilities in the area and appealed to the district assembly to help provide a community library, KVIP, and rehabilitate the only primary school in the area.

He also appealed to the government to reshape the Eguase-Amosima road through Asebu Ekroful and the Asebu Ekroful to Wiomoa roads to facilitate the carting of foodstuffs to the marketing centres. Nana Bofo said he was unhappy about the way school children attend video shows in the town, adding that this had resulted in low enrolment and high school dropouts particularly among girls.

He, therefore, appealed to the district assembly to enact a bye-law to curb the activities of the video operators in the town. Mr Alfred Aidoo Assembly member for the area called on the district assembly and NGOs to help provide the town with potable water and good roads.
