The District Chief Executive for Kwabre East, Hon. Iddisah Adams has revealed that very soon, the Assembly will arrest and prosecute parents and guardians who refuse to send their children to school.
He said most often than not, children of school going age are found selling on the streets whiles they are supposed to be in school and the Assembly is no more going to tolerate it.
Hon Adams made this known when he toured some communities in the district to familiarize himself with the chiefs and people in the district and also to know at first hand the plights of the people in the district. The communities he visited included Brofoyedru, Bosore, Kenyase, Adeisina, Manyhia and Krobo.
He said the Assembly will soon pass a bye-law to deal with parents who allow their children to sell during classes’ hours. He said education is very important and so it is necessary that every stakeholder performs his or her part effectively to raise the fallen standards of education in the district. He acknowledged that though times are hard in the country, parents and guardians should go the extra mile to educate their wards to the highest level.
Hon. Adams added that most districts in the country have developed mainly because they have been able to produce at least one or two influential people in government and it behooves that people of Kwabre also take the education of their children seriously, because they cannot tell the future of these young ones.
The DCE also commented about the School Feeding Programme in the district and bemoaned that out of the over thirty communities in the District, currently the programme is on-going in only three communities that is in Mamponteng, Antoa and Adanwomase. He assured the chiefs and people in the communities that his administration will do all within its means to see to the spread of the programme in at least half the number of the communities.
For his part the District Education Director, Rev. J.H. Offosuhene appealed to parents to assist teachers in their effort of raising the fallen standards of teaching and learning in the district. He added that teachers in the district are being motivated well to give off their best, thus, the need for parents and guardians to do their best.
The chief of Kenyase, Barimah Owusu Agyeman appealed to the District Chief Executive to assist them in completing a number of projects that they have already started on their own. Some of the projects included completing a school block, tarring of roads and other social amenities that have eluded them for some time now.
The DCE was accompanied by the District Information Officer, District Cultural Officer, District Education Officer and some executives of the NDC in the constituency.
