Torgbi Foli Exa Aheto, Ewefia of Ashiaman has stressed the need for Ewes in the Ashaiman Municipality to be law-abiding, and remain united for their common good.
Torgbi Aheto made the call at the celebration of this year’s Tetekpe Festival of the Ewes at Tema New Town under the theme: “Uniting Through Our Tradition And Culture.”
He said the festival which means "togetherness," aimed at to preserving and maintaining the traditional heritage of the Ewes and to also to re-instate their traditional values.
Torgbi Aheto urged the Ewes within the Municipality to use the occasion to co-exist peacefully with their other neighbours.
He also called for unity among Ewes in Ghana and other neighbouring countries like Nigeria, Togo and Benin.
The Ewefia of Ashaiman disclosed that a school would soon be constructed to teach the Ewes in the Municipality their mother tongue, so as to help them to communicate in their local dialect.
He observed that Ashaiman had seen accelerated development in recent times, as compared to early years when there were no roads, street lights, telephones, and even stalls.
Torgbi Aheto expressed concern about delay in construction works on the main road linking Nungua to the Ashaiman Roundabout, and pleaded with the contractors to speed up work on the project to ensure its early completion
On politics, the Ewefia of Ashaiman advised politicians to accept divergent views, and be decorum in their campaign activities.
He said as the nation approached the election year, political parties should go about their activities in a manner that would unite rather than divide Ghanaians.
Mr Emmanuel Max Voy, an aspiring Member of Parliament for NDC in the Ashaiman Constituency urged Ewes in Ghana and even beyond, to foster peace and unity among themselves to ensure development.
Mr Max-Voy reminded the Ewes that the uniqueness of the festival must continue to unite them as one community with common aims and objectives.
