Ashiaman (GAR), Feb 28, GNA - The mortal remains of the late Nii Tetteh Amui II, Ashaiman Mantse, was interred at the Tema New Town Royal Mausoluem at the weekend.
The funeral of the late chief who died on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, took place at the Nii Amui Park at Ashaiman. The solemn ceremony which saw the display of culture by the chief within the Municipality, amidst the firing of musketry, attracted thousands of mourners from all walks of life.
Dignitaries, including Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, Nii Armah Ashitey, Greater-Accra Regional Minister, Mr Emmanuel Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Minister of State, Mr Robert Kempes Papa Nii Ofosuware, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Numo Addison Adinortey, Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, and Mr Alfred Kwame Agbesi, Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, filed past the body of Nii Amui.
Tributes were read by the Tema Traditional Council, the Tema Divisional Council of Chiefs, the Ashaiman Divisional Council, the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, Wife, Children, Daughters and Sons in-law, Uncles and Aunties. The tributes described the late chief as a counselor, peace-maker, mediator, a great organizer, planner, a unifier and a man full of wisdom, who graved all odds to embrace people from the various spheres of life, to co-exist peacefully in the Municipality.
The tributes described Nii Ashaiman, as he was affectionately called, as a firm and resolute leader who fought against all forms of injustice in society.
As the people in the Municipality mourned him, it was their fervent hope that Nii Ashaiman's footprints of love, kindness, dedication and service, shall remind those who came in contact with him, to love one another. Known in private life as Emmanuel Tetteh Mantey, the late Ashaiman Mantse re-constituted the Ashaiman Divisional Council in 2007, and played a major role in the establishment of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly in 2008. Nii's vision was to build a Millennium Palace for the people of Ashaiman, but unfortunately this could not materialize when on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 he passed away at the ripe age of 74.
