Ashaiman police arrests wee smokers and drug peddlers

Ashaiman, June 25, GNA - The Ashaiman police have arrested 20 Indian hemp smokers and four drug peddlers in an operation mounted to rid the town of hardened criminals.

For sometime now, criminals have been harassing innocent residents of the town, thus instilling fear in them to go about their normal duties. The operation that was led by Police Chief Inspector James Nkansah took the police to Asenso Bar, the main market, Rasta Bar, Roman Down, "I Shall Return" and Community 22, where the suspects were arrested.


Briefing the Ghana News Agency, Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, Tema regional Police Public Relations Officer said gave the names of the peddlers as Kojo Duseh, 35, Bruce Mensah 23, Kwasi Owusu 21 and Osumanu Alhassan 38. He said, while Duseh had 42 wrappers and six big parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, three pairs of scissors and one cutter on him, Mensah was found with four big parcels, 41 wrappers of wee, two pairs of scissors.

Inspector Nketia-Yeboah said 35 wrappers and a quantity of seeds of the substance in a bucket was found on Alhassan, while Owusu was arrested with 80 wrappers of a substance hidden on his body for peddling. He said the suspects would be put before court after screening.
