The Ashaiman Police Barrier has been temporarily relocated from Tulaku near the Ashaiman roundabout to the Asutuare Junction at Shai Hills in the Shai-Osudoku District.
A press release from the Tema Police Regional Command stated that the relocation took effect from March 1, 2015, awaiting the completion of a permanent barrier near the Afienya town.
"The relocation of the barrier, which took effect from Sunday, March, 1, 2015, has become necessary because the old barrier, which was located in Ashaiman, has outlived its usefulness".
The Command explained that, at the time of the location of the old barrier at Ashaiman New Tulaku, the area was under developed.
It added that over the years due to rapid springing up of residential areas and businesses within the area, there have been many outlets on both sides of the road especially on the Tema/Akosombo highway and other connecting roads leading to the barrier.
According to the release, criminals and other economic saboteurs could easily dodge the barrier by using any of the numerous outlets.
The Tema Police Command said the relocation was also necessary because, the barrier at its previous location caused heavy traffic congestion to the numerous road users who travel on that stretch of the road especially during the rush hours.
