Residents of Ashaiman has appealed to the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA), to provide them with water tanker services due to the destruction of the area's pipelines as a result of ongoing construction of the Municipality’s principal road.

The resident told the Ghana News Agency that the Assembly was yet to provide them with an alternative water supply system during the road construction.

They expressed their deep dissatisfaction, as according to them, they have to trek around the Municipality daily in search of water.

Mr Gabriel Atsu, a resident, said for over two weeks now, water had not flowed through their pipes, thus compelling some residents to fetch untreated water from the agriculture irrigation dam in the area.

Mr Atsu added that, some people are also taking advantage of the situation to exploit residents by filling small containers with the dam water and selling each for GH¢1.

He indicated that apart from the possible health implications of using the dam water for domestic purposes, it is also negatively affecting school attendance, since most school children have to search for water every morning before going to school.

Mr Ibrahim Baidoo, Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, when contacted, said it was not the responsibility of the Assembly to provide water tanker services for the people.

Mr Baidoo said there was no need for residents of Ashaiman to complain of not having water, as according to him, they can easily get gallons of water to buy from the tricycle operators.

He also indicated that the situation does not affect all residents, adding that, affected areas have been informed that pipelines would be laid on both sides of the road, which is under construction to provide the needed water.
